Hikingdan Welcomes His Baby Girl, Jessy!

It Truly was Just a Matter of Time!

When one is in lockdown all alone during a pandemic, it can be tough. I would like to be brutally honest and say that it has been difficult living alone during Covid-19. In fact, and at times, it has seemed very lonely. I have been very sad, bored, anxious, and somewhat depressed! I am not used to sitting inside my condo alone, and not being able to go anywhere. I was only able to see people when shopping etc. I saw family on very rare and safe occasions.  It is safe to say that it was horrible. I am a social person. Although I love and value my “down time”, people energize me. Since March, 2020, life has been so very different and challenging! Many of us are experiencing the exact same thing.

I tried for months to adopt a dog. I truly felt that would bring me joy during this terrible time.

I have been pet free for over 7 years now and I have always missed having a dog. I started applying to agencies over the last 6 months but nothing positive was happening.

One day, a friend told me about Snookie’s Society.  THEY PROVED TO BE THE PERFECT PLACE AND I WAS APPROVED FOR A DOG OF MY OWN. A DOG THAT I COULD GIVE A FOREVER HOME TO!

A Bit About Snookie’s Society

Snookie’s Society is an all-volunteer based non-profit rescue organization. They rely on the generosity of our friends and the community to realize their mission of safeguarding, rescuing, medically treating, spay/neutering, and finding forever homes for the dogs that enter their rescue.

Snookie’s’ dogs come from local and international street abandonment, local shelter, and facilities; including dogs scheduled for euthanasia.

I was very impressed with this organization. They are hard working people dedicated to the dogs they rescue. Their adoption process was extensive. Reference checks, educating potential foster/forever home applicants, and making certain the applicants met strict (and necessary criteria) was part of the process.

I was thrilled to receive that call informing that I was approved to adopt Jessy! Jessy in my forever dog! She no longer has to live in a shelter or roam the streets of Cairo, Egypt hoping to survive another day!

JESSY’S STORY : How Could I Not Want Her After Reading and Seeing This?

I’m up for adoption!

My name is Jessy and I’m a cute Havanese /Coton de Tulear cross and I am 2.5 – 3 years old.

I love to lick everyone, I’m very affectionate and just want to be loved and held! I am a high energy, silly, lovable little girl who just wants to have a family to call my own.

It takes time for me to warm up to other dogs especially large dogs.

I easily get attached to people and I am quick to love my humans at home. I need to know where they are at all times.
I’m still working on potty training but my humans say I’m super smart and learning very quickly.
I know how to sit and only had three accidents over a course of a week.
I’m good at sleeping through the night and use my open crate as my safe spot when I need some time to relax.

I would do best in a home with rescue experience and experience with small dogs.

Please research the Havanese breed. This breed tends to have separation anxiety from their people. They love their humans and follow them everywhere like velcro.

Jessy is incredibly affectionate and if you want a baby in the version of a white fluff ball, Jessy is it. She NEEDS to be with her people and extremely loyal to the right owner who is lucky enough to have her.

Jessy is a unique, highly intelligent and has an infectious smile that brightens up the day.

A special girl waiting for that lucky owner to love her.

Miss Jessy got her forever home!

I love her and suddenly the stress of covid-19 and loneliness has gone. Let’s just say we needed each other!

The Big Question Is: Who Rescued Who?

On September 18, 2020, I became a daddy to my sweet girl Jessy. It was a very well thought out decision to get a dog. I knew it would change many things about my life, but I was ready. There was NO thinking about whether or not I would go to a breeder for a puppy or adopt a rescue dog. I knew I would choose a rescue as I always have. My personal opinion is that there are beautiful dogs out there that desperately need to be saved.

This poor little dog Jessy, had spent a year or more roaming the streets of Cairo, Egypt. She was then captured and placed in a shelter. The rescue group here brought her over. She endured a long flight locked in her crate from Cairo to Toronto.

The photos below are of Jessy before leaving Cairo, Egypt. She arrived in the crate shown here and that is what she lived in while at the shelter.

Luckily for her, she was placed in a most loving and wonderful foster home for a short time.

This is Jessy when I did my foster visits in Toronto.

I remember driving to the condo of her foster parents in Toronto. It was around 7 o’clock pm. I recall picking her up in her crate, securing it in the backseat of my car, and driving her to her forever home with me.

The poor little thing was petrified. I can’t even imagine what was going through her mind with the multiple changes she had in such a short time.

I did do a home visit before officially adopting her and she even spent an hour with me with her foster parents visiting my home. I don’t think anything could have prepared her for another permanent move.

When I brought her home I opened the door to her crate and it took her a good 45 minutes to completely come out of it and approach me. Once she did, She must’ve remembered my scent from meeting me before because she licked my hand and allowed me to pick her up and bring her to the couch and give her a cuddle or two.

Jessy looking so scared on her first night with me. Eventually, she settled and cuddled up to me. I vowed then that she would never want for anything again in her life.

Her first night sleeping was rough. She trembled all night whilst crying. On night two I put her on my bed (instead of the crate) and I think Jessy started to realize that this wasn’t such a bad place after all.

In the last 2 years, we have bonded and fallen madly in love with each other. I can’t imagine my home without her in it.

I love this little girl and I’m so thankful I was able to rescue her and show her a truly loving and wonderful home that she could live in forever!

Her car seat! She needs it to look out the window, otherwise she gets very car sick.

The New Ruler of the House!

I always say that I may have rescued her but I also think she rescued me!💕💕💕!

I would like to thank Snookie’s Society for giving me the opportunity to adopt Jessy.

Just in case you’re wondering, the answer is yes! She is incredibly spoiled but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Oh by the way, she does have her own Egyptian Cotton pillow and more coats than I do! 🤣😂

Keep Walking!
